On a bright sunny Saturday morning😂. The ladies 2’s braved the blustery wind and rain to travel to Salisbury.
All the team safely present, the team ventured out of the warm changing rooms and set about adjusting to the weather conditions and got in a good warm up courtesy of Jo Hall.
Battle positions ready the game started. There were some initial end to end exchange’s with each team thwarting the attacks. As the game went on Southampton began to get control of the game. Persistence work from the team eventually found a way through the Salisbury defence for Jenny to slot the ball in the back of the net. The rest of the first half Southampton continued to have most the possession taking the game to half time 1-0 up.
The second half saw Southampton have most of the possession but the keeper and defence of Salisbury worked endlessly to keep the ball out of the goal. Opportunities came and went. Salisbury manage a few attacks of their own but the Southampton defence mopped up and turned it straight back into attacks. Towards the end Southampton thought they had gone 2-0 up through a lovely reverse stick goal from the top of the circle by Roseanne. Celebrations were then dampened by the umpire who after some discussion decided to disallow the goal.
final score 1-0 a good team effort by all in somewhat lovely weather conditions 🌬️🌧️
Player of the match was awarded to Kate, who stole the ball off of the Salisbury players at every opportunity and also fed great balls through to our midfield and forwards.
