It was about time we had a result from some decent play. Winchester were a good team and for the first 5-or so minutes it was a tough game. Then their strong defender turned his ankle over and their captain headbutted Alex Hall and landed himself in hospital. After that, they were a bit of a weakened team. We took full advantage of this power-play by conceding a weak goal that Nobby would have probably saved to make things a bit harder for ourselves. But after that, things picked up. We won a couple of short corners but conceded about 10. Fortunately, Hatchett had been training them in the art of the short corner, and they didn't score any. Some strong runs up the centre by Wookey and Aidey put the pressure on them and after a short amount of time a Fouldsey-esque (except with style and two hands) run from Cameron got him up the right-wing and along the back line where a neat slip to Andy Whiteside at the near post put us level. Some more strong play and another few corners saw Pidgeon up in the D with a clear striking shot - to which he almost hit the corner flag. Some nice complaining from Wookey got himself a green card and a second goal from Andy and another from them sent us into the second half at 2-2.

A couple of strong attacks by Winchester were thwarted by some excellent saves from Purdy in goal (some of which got both the ball and the attacker - the perfect combination - the intended target was not specified) and another strong run by Alex Hall up the centre put Cameron through 1-on-1 with the keeper. A complete fluff of control meant he missed the ball but put the keeper off sufficiently that it went through the keepers legs and rolled merrily into the goal (though Cameron still had the time to stop it on the line, bring it onto his strong side, then roll it over). Winchester got a third, Wookey got another green card and with mere seconds to go, another run down the left put a cross in in front of the keeper and a full-stretch dive from Whiteside tipped it in and gave us the victory. Tea and medals all round.
