Well we have finally reached the end of another busy hockey season and I am sure the captains are busily preparing their final reports for the season and these will be published in due course. As normal we finished off with the Women's and Men's Clubs combining for three hours of 'fun ' hockey where we mixed players from all teams and sexes to produce eight teams although there were only about 75 people there, so some creative management meant some players ran around all afternoon. The weather threatened to be unhelpful but on the day very little rain fell on the Sports Centre so all those that opted out missed some good hockey. Following this we adjourned to the clubhouse for a BBQ and our THANKS go to the gentlemen volunteers who manned the cookers and produced a mixture of rare to well-done burgers and sausages. Thanks also to the players, who ensured that the teams ran smoothly and those that ensured everybody got to see some of the ball during the afternoon and thanks to those that umpired. Finally thanks to Dee and Sue, who took your money and again to Dee for manning the table taking in results and working out the finals etc despite having to hobble about following a leg operation.

The annual club photograph was taken and will appear on the web site shortly.

Lost stick
A player unfortunately mislaid his TK stick so could you check your bags and see if you have gained one. If you find you have please let me know.

Sunday

On Sunday we held the last junior training session and the end of season BBQ and again enjoyed good weather (apart from 9:00 to 9:15). In a mass match the under 10s took on the under 12s and the wealth of talent on display was fantastic. Meanwhile the under 8s had a shooting tournament before having a final match and the odds and !! played out a fairly competitive game. It was then up the hill to the Sporting View for the BBQ. Thanks to all the parents and coaches that have helped out this year and especially to Pete Mulloy and Eric Hurden who manned the BBQ. We shall shortly be getting together for another BBQ and will be looking for volunteers to manage/coach next year.

Also on Sunday the under 16 boys met with Winchester in the semi final of the Hampshire cup and came out 6 - 4 winners. Coach Pete Slade was proud of his squad, which contained 10 under 15s and bodes well for next season. Southampton took the lead but were initially pegged back to 1 - 1 but as half time neared Southampton started to take the initiative and a 4 - 2 half time lead. They sealed the game with a fifth goal to go three clear and despite a late Winchester push, always kept a two goal advantage going into the final whistle. Scorers were Danny Morgan (4), Alex Tong and Craig Harris.

The Mid Hants girls won the end of season area tournament against Northeast, South East, IOW, New Forest and Fareham and Gosport. They also won the league programme held through out the season. In all this year they have played 15 games and not conceded a goal and scored maximum points in the league. Southampton players involved in this side are Louise Jeffcoate (GK), Clare Lewis (GK), Katie Grange, Kerry Brown, Amanda Royle, Laura Please, Kirsten Cox, Sophie Mitchell, Kathryn Raw, Beth Davies, Abby Purkiss, Alex Parvin. They were managed by Sandy Lewis and coached by Sue Crowley and Roger Merry. Thanks go to Tony Cox who umpired throughout.

It has been a good season with a record number of children taking part in junior hockey with Southampton. Some good league results. The under 19 and under 14 girls won their leagues. The under 14s boys won theirs and the under 14, 16 and 18 boys all reached the Hampshire cup finals.
