Raising money for a lasting memorial for Roger Merry.

19-Dec-16 - UPDATE:

Fantastic news, we have very nearly reached our target for the dugout fund, thank you all so much for your kind and generous support.

We have raised our target to £7,000 in order to provide for funds to possibly move the viewing stands to a more central area where the view will not be obscured by the home team dugout. This basically requires a large concrete pad but the ground will need to be raised and shuttered in the area.

We hope to have the dugouts in place for the re-start in January

We have reached an agreement with Active Nations and Southampton City Council that we can install two dugouts on the nearside of pitch one as a fitting and lasting memorial to Roger. The final design is in the process of being agreed. After 30 years of standing in the wind and rain watching, coaching and supporting his sides I am sure Roger would appreciate the irony that these only come along after he cannot benefit from them.

The club needs to do some significant fundraising to cover the cost of buying and installing these structures. You can donate money to the club by cheque payable to Southampton Hockey Club or direct transfer to the club’s bank account (the same as for membership Sort Code: 55-50-23 Account 72721197) please label your donation as “dugout”. If you are a UK tax payer, please complete the “gift aid” form (attached at the bottom of this web page) as this will enable HMRC to donate another 25% of your contribution to the club.

Large or small every donation will help. Maybe you could donate your umpiring fee or travelling expenses? Maybe something from your team’s beer kitty?

In order to achieve our target we have a couple of events already lined up between now and Christmas:

  • Mini's Tournament - 20th November - all cake and tea sales proceeds will go towards the fund - Bakers needed
  • Christmas Quiz & Raffle - 3rd December - £2 p.p. with all proceeds going to the fund.
  • Christmas Mixed 7's - 17th December - £5 p.p. to play a in a mixed hockey 7-a-side tournament.
